One of the most ironically conceived phrases I’ve ever heard came about fairly recently. The formula was first coined by late columnist and conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer. As is typical of those who simply can’t imagine why non-conservatives might object to a conservative president, they have to dummy it down to “They must be crazy”. Thus Krauthammer coined the term ‘Bush Derangement Syndrome’. It didn’t take off, I would speculate, because it had too many ‘big words’ in it. Okay, maybe in 2003 there just wasn’t quite the same viral partisan presence on the internet yet.
I liked Krauthammer. He was, for a short time, one of the last bastions of conservative sanity in the media. He did go to the dark side for a bit along with Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson, but as an intellectual he could not maintain the farce as easily as those whose conscience had less value than beach houses. While Obama was in office, he found justification for his misrepresentations of Obamacare/the ‘ACA’ and had no compunction about demonstrating his ignorance of climate science. But in 2016, he pwned himself;

“I will not vote for Hillary Clinton, but, as I’ve explained in my columns, I could never vote for Donald Trump“.

“I resemble that remark”

From Wikipedia:
That “syndrome” was defined by Krauthammer as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency—nay—the very existence of George W. Bush”

Yes, he fell into the very same category he defined. It never occurred to him that the people who loathed Bush might have had very good reasons for feeling the way they did. Then, he unwittingly found himself in the very same position with regard to Trump.
Oh poetic irony; Krauthammer himself apparently wound up suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

The phrase itself, stolen in form from Krauthammer, was first attributed to Esther Goldberg in an August 2015 op-ed in The American Spectator. It was supposed to be applied to “Ruling class Republicans”, but it became an epithet for anyone who ‘didn’t like Trump’.

Because how could anyone possibly not LOVE such a man?!?

And here, dear readers, is the crux in the ass of our WHOLE political environment; millions of Americans are congenitally incapable of critical, rational, objective thought. Yes, I meant that. People who have a moral scale they apply to anyone they don’t like completely suspend that scale in the face of Trump’s many blatant ‘indiscretions’. They ignore every piece of evidence they don’t agree with, even to the point of denying simple, basic, well-established facts. Not the least of these facts would be the historically well-documented legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.

The easily substantiated reality is this: The only people with ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ are the Trumpsters who literally cannot acknowledge or understand simple facts, are incapable of objective assessment, completely bereft of reason or logic, and for whom intellectual rigor is utterly absent. THAT is the irony. They are totally vested and enraptured in their fantasies that Trump is a ‘great savior’ who is going to expose and annihilate a deep-state cabal of Democrats, Jews, and Hollywood elites who, get this: are cannibal pedophiles that feast on children and extract ‘adrenochrome’, a magical, life-extending serum, from their child victims.

No, really:

Do ALL Trumpsters believe this? Well, not ‘all’ people have hair and not ‘all’ people have tattoos, but there is no redemption from exceptions when the majority of one’s party is bat-shit insane.

Yes, THIS is how they see him.

“Trump Derangement Syndrome” indeed.
