“You will know them by their fruit.” Matthew 7:16.
What does this mean? It’s mostly about those who pretend to be Christian leaders and prophets but instead engage in carnal indulgences, greed, and selfishness. It is also an implicit test of those who call themselves ‘Christians’, but instead of demonstrating the ‘Fruit of The Spirit’, (“love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”), they exhibit arrogance, hatred, greed, selfishness, intolerance, and/or fear. These are hallmarks of the most un-Christian of all ideologies; fascism. Whether it is Christian or Islamic fascism, corporate fascism, or any system designed to convey all privileges to a single demographic while oppressing all other demographics, it is invariably about all those qualities that are inimical to The Spirit. Fascists are all of those things masked by the veneer of an ‘identity’ that all must conform to. Anyone who cannot conform to their superficial group identity, due either to an ideology they choose not to hide or an immutable characteristic that they cannot hide, they must be oppressed, silenced, and ultimately eliminated.
This, Dear Fascists, is because you are cowards.
Yes, the fascists will laugh. They envision themselves as ‘strong’ and ‘capable’. They look at all their guns, their money (for those who have it), and their numbers and think of themselves as unafraid. This begs the question: why are those all so important to them? They have an evolutionary, fear-based imperative to feel ‘secure’. They need to live only amongst others whom they are comfortable with…. People just like themselves. The reason they need to have their racially and ideologically pure nation state (as all fascists dream of) is because they are tribal. ‘Tribalism’ was an evolutionary strategy of our primate ancestors for the better part of 20 million years. It was super-effective because having organized numbers meant less vulnerability to the natural world. The only problem with it was when another tribe or individual came along who was ‘different’, they were seen as a ‘threat’. Because to the tribe, ‘different’=’dangerous’. The tribal solution to anything that was ‘different’ was most often to kill it. Wiping out entire other tribes was the entire trajectory of homo sapiens, and our prior ancestors, for millions of years, and that trajectory has only changed in scale and tools.
The plain reason for this strategy?
“Fear”
I’ve explained this before. When we first made the evolutionary scene as mammals, we weren’t exactly apex predators. So, like all things that were tasty to other, bigger animals with sharp pointy things all over, our best and most immediate tactic for dealing with our environment was fear. It was our fear that necessitated banding together in tribes so that we could overpower other predators and rival tribes with numbers, group tactics, and novel advancements like ‘throwing rocks’.
Having numbers, having weapons, and just plain killing anyone that was ‘different’ was how ancient humans insulated themselves from danger. It was how they acted on their fear.
With the advent of civilization, however, such evolutionary throwbacks found themselves surrounded by people and customs that were ‘different’. They still felt the impulse to fear ‘difference’, they still felt the impulse to expel anyone that wasn’t just like them, but civilization was the next evolutionary step after ‘tribalism’. And the fascists have not caught up. They’re still in the ‘tribal’ phase of evolution. They imagine everything ‘different’ as a scary monster, something that threatens them in some way… because their primate brains tell them they’re ‘in danger’ from anything ‘different’ even if it can’t really harm them. So they collect guns, band together in groups of people who think, act, and look just like them, and chomp at the bit to do what our tribal ancestors had to do to secure their control of resources, primacy, and group safety: Kill everyone who isn’t like them.
Oh, we know… they say they just want to ‘keep the races separate’. They say they just don’t want anything ‘shoved in their face’. They say that the ‘corrupt world is trying to destroy their way of life’. Of course those are all in their head.
There is no gay or LGBTQ ‘agenda’ trying to ‘recruit or convert’ our children. No one is trying to ‘make black people angry at white people’ or ‘make white children feel guilty’ by teaching them basic history. No one is going to ‘take their guns away’ (or mine). No one is going to ‘outlaw their religion’, ‘hunt them for sport’, or ‘convert them to atheism’. Sure, they may find a few inconsequential keyboard warriors, bloggers, or obscure podcasters or activists saying all kinds of crazy stuff. Sure, they ’ll use anecdotal examples of these as ‘proof’ that the ‘liberal gubmint is commin’ fer us!’ while ignoring all the very open and blatant calls from their own popular media figures and politicians to ‘persecute’, ‘eradicate’, or ‘execute’ people they don’t like. Their tribal narrative requires the exceptionalism that allows them to believe that their calls for violence are ‘justified’.
Remember how Germans were told by propagandists that the Jews were a ‘threat’? That false propaganda was so pervasive that it infected generations like a virus.
Yes, it’s a lie. It was a lie then, it’s a lie now. But it’s a lie that gives them an excuse to double-down and act on their tribal impulses to be afraid of people who are different than they are. It’s a lie that gives them an excuse to yearn for a day when they gather their tribe and eliminate people whom they feel ‘threatened’ by.
The propagandists who fill them with fear of the ‘other’ have been using their evolutionary design against them. They know that they can be manipulated through their fear, just like the German people who were convinced by propagandists that immigrants, gays, and Jews were a ‘threat’..
Again, they don’t see themselves as ‘afraid’. Actually think about what they are afraid of; “Jews taking over the world and enslaving all the non-Jews”, for instance. Why?
Because they expect of the ‘other tribes’ what they expect of their tribe.
Why are they afraid of the LGBTQ+ community ‘recruiting’ their children?
Because they expect of that ‘tribe’ what they expect of their tribe.
Why are they afraid of minorities ‘taking over the government’?
Because they expect of those ‘tribes’ what they expect of their tribe.
This is why, when confronted with the examples of their own hostility, violence, and partisanship, they always say, “Well the other side is just as bad!” And the irony is lost on them.
How do we know this? Because their ‘tribe’ is trying, with some success, to spread their religion (to people like themselves), to spread their values of heterosexual conformity, and to take over the government by any means necessary.
They do this because they’re afraid that, should any of the minorities they see as ‘rival tribes’ beat them to it, they will be treated just as badly as white conservatives have historically treated those minorities. History has demonstrated, clearly, that their ‘tribe’ of white, ‘Christian’ conservatives in the U.S. can be particularly brutal to people who are ‘different’.
This is why they’re terrified of ‘critical race theory’, even though it doesn’t teach what they’ve been told it does. This is why they’re terrified of any children learning the brutal history of the actions of the white settlers who eventually carved a nation out of blood and slavery. They’ve become convinced that it will make those ‘other children’ want ‘retribution’, and it will make their children capitulate out of guilt. It won’t, of course, but they need some justification for their fear.
Sadly, there is nothing they can be told, nothing that can be explained, nothing that can be proven, that will assuage their fear… because that fear is hard-wired into them by millions of years of evolution.
That, by the way, is another thing that they will never understand, because under the twisted version of Christianity the majority of them believe in, their fear and anger is righteous, God is on their side, and of course there is ‘no such thing’ as evolution.
